Based on the book "Being At Your Best When Your Kids Are At Their Worst" by Kim John Payne, Being At Your Best Parent Groups help you learn to control your reactions so you can maintain a calm, connected home life.
About Being At Your Best Parent Groups
Simplicity Parenting Being At Your Best Parent Groups bring together small groups of like-minded parents to explore “practical compassion in parenting.”
As the pace of life accelerates, and with so much to deal with, parents feel stressed out, overwhelmed, and worried, which can lead them to react to their children in ways that aren’t in line with their values for themselves—and that they don’t feel good about.
But by incorporating the simple principles and techniques they learn in this class, parents can learn to control their reactions and speak with the kind of warm, calm voice that supports the balanced, connected home life we all want for ourselves and our children.
Parent Groups are led by a Certified Simplicity Parenting Group Leader and are held in person when possible or virtually through interactive video calls.
In-person classes consist of four gatherings of approximately 2-1/2 hours each. Virtual classes typically consist of more gatherings of shorter length.
Please contact Chloë for current pricing and course dates. Participant materials can be purchased separately or be included within the Course Cost.

About Chloë Aldam
Hi, I'm Chloë & I live in Bristol, with my husband, Chris, & our three children, in the south-west of the UK. I have been 'practising' much of Kim John Payne's Simplicity Parenting methods since our eldest started Kindergarten in 2010.
My official parent coaching journey started in 2016, when I completed my first training as a certified Simplicity Parenting Family Coach, followed swiftly by one of the first UK Discipline & Guidance Coaches. Before then, my ’true’ journey started as I trained my Icelandic horses, 8 years before children arrived on our scene. I am happy to admit that "Being at your Best is Good Enough"... never aim for that elusive perfect! Consistency and boundaries being checked on a daily basis has been a great way to train to be a parent.
When we align our heads, hearts & gut to intuitively raise our children, we become compassionate to their needs and our own (acknowledging our own parenting history) so that our families are calmer & more connected.
So if you are overwhelmed or frustrated, dreaming of a calmer happier life, seeking to become a more confident parent with greater compassion for yourself & others… then help is close at hand! Using the concepts shown by Kim John Payne in Simplicity Parenting Family Life and Discipline & Guidance (First 9 Years, Tweens & Teens groups), I share how to simplify our lives, to spend more of our time being more at our best whilst raising calmer, happier children.
Finding out what has prevented us, and creating a pathway so that we CAN do this is a joy, especially when we are supported by a like-minded community of parents.

About Being at Your Best
In difficult and challenging situations with our kids, every parent wants to react as much as possible in a way that reflects their family values and expectations. And yet when our children “push our buttons,” we often find ourselves reacting in ways that we know are far from our principles, and even seem to further inflame a situation. Most distressing of all is when we feel ourselves falling into these predictable relationship patterns as they begin to happen. It gives us the sinking feeling of, “Oh no, here we go again.”
We know that when our children are at their worst, they need us to be at our best—or as close to it as we can get at the time. But how can we move from a “stress regress” to speaking in a voice that is warm, calm, and firm? Educator Kim John Payne offers techniques that simply but very directly shift these damaging patterns of communication and parental behavior. It is a grounded and practical tool that he has taught to numerous parents worldwide to:
- Slow down the interaction
- Give them a greater feeling of inner spaciousness
- Be more in control of their reactions and the situation
- Sense what their child’s deeper needs are even though they are misbehaving
- Respond in a way that gives the child a feeling of being heard and yet puts a boundary in place
And Parent Groups are the best way to bring the material to life in your family.
